Every coach or mentor has their own particular style and way of doing things. It’s important for you, the potential client and coachee, to know what’s in store upon entering into a coaching engagement with me. You may already know exactly what you expect to occur during a coaching session. Even still, before we enter into a coaching relationship, it’s important that you understand what coaching is and what coaching is not (relative to Rick Osborn’s method).

has to do with creativity, goal setting, strategizing, and accountability to gain the momentum for success, fulfillment and wellness for life. In fact, the coaching process has a lot to do with a co-creative, brainstorming relationship between you (the client) and me (the coach). Think of it as hiring a wise, well-informed, solutions-oriented FRIEND. Your coach is someone who has your best interest at heart, who will creatively and effectively help you find your way out of your current undesirable situation. More importantly, as your coach, I will help you transition to a better, more fulfilling, more successful and healthier place in life.
In simple terms, a Coach helps you move from Point A to Point B. Through my special SUPERCHARGED Coaching process, you’ll soon begin to find answers and inspiration to move out of your current situation to that place where you’ve always wanted to be.
What Rick Osborn’s Coaching Is NOT:
My Coaching is not formal.
In other words, whether our coaching sessions are by phone, Skype or in person, the setting will be very informal and completely confidential. There will not be a formal office setting. I meet with many of my clients via video conferencing with Skype. Some meet face to face over a cup of coffee in a coffee house or in a hotel lobby. No matter where the coaching or mentoring session occurs, my goal is for you to be comfortable and at ease, like meeting an old friend who, by the way, will help you work through issues and find solutions.
My Coaching is not psychoanalysis.
To me, this is one of the fantastic things about the coaching and mentoring process. It’s not some type of therapy. You’re not seeing a shrink or a psychotherapist. It’s not about mental illness or anything like that. Coaching is about you (with my help, guidance and support) taking the necessary steps to get what you want out of life. It’s about finding balance and wellness, not lying on a couch trying to get in touch with repressed feelings. During the coaching engagement, we’ll discuss your current situation, but we won’t dwell on it. I’m not going to pry into your childhood memories and try to dig up some excuse for why you’re the way you are today. No worries and no embarrassments. That doesn’t mean we can’t talk about deep issues, but we won’t dwell on them. And while we’re on the subject…
My Coaching is not about focusing on problems.
I know you’ve got problems. Everybody does. The fact that you’re seeking solutions with a coach shows strength and character. And, if it’s a fit, I’ll be there to help you through those difficulties with you if need be. But in our coaching sessions, again, we won’t spend a lot of our time focusing on problems, weaknesses and issues. Instead, we will hyper-focus on answers, solutions and strategies that will move you out of that problem area to a better place of success, wellness and fulfillment. This is exciting, positive stuff, especially as you see the great changes that are about to take place in your life!
My Coaching is not a “microwave” solution.
What I mean is that you’re not going to get some magic bullet that will jettison you into the perfect life overnight. I know that’s what we all want, but achieving and being our best takes strategy, time, effort and consistency. That doesn’t mean that you won’t find the results that you’re looking for either. I’ve got a lot of experience in helping people find their way out of problems towards success. I know how to SuperCharge your life with proven methods. That’s what I’m about as a coach and mentor. But it requires that you be committed to your success and wellness. This is about life strategy, not about quick fixes. What you’ll learn in our coaching sessions will be super-effective tools that will revolutionize your life. At times I may ask you to do some challenging things, but never anything that you can’t accomplish with drive, determination, prayer and my support.
My Coaching is not about being judgmental.
I will never judge you for what you’ve done wrong or where you’ve been. It’s not about dwelling on past screw ups and shortcomings. And it’s not about me, the Coach, looking down on you with self-righteous criticism. The fact is we all are trying to make our way through life’s difficulties. We’re all human, and we’ve all made mistakes. My coaching process is redemptive. It’s about positive change. It’s about glancing at past mistakes, admitting failures, learning from them, improving and getting stronger. From there you start to move on to a better place in life. And while I won’t judge you, be prepared for me to stay on your case from time to time if you don’t follow through with our special strategy to move you forward.
My Coaching is not passive or one-sided.
I may do a lot of talking and sharing about certain subjects related to wellness, relationships, motivation, inspiration, spirituality, etc., but coaching is a two way process. It requires your participation and your action. If you’re not proactive and willing to do the work it takes to achieve results, then having a coach is not for you. You will find the process a waste of your time and a waste of my time as well. I’m not interested in hearing myself talk. My goal as a coach is to see to it that you improve – get results, success and wellness, as quickly as possible. But, it takes action – on your part! If you want to realize your dreams and be successful, you have to be willing to work for them.
My Coaching will not last forever.
Of course you know this, but many who enter a coaching engagement fear that it will take too long. Yes, it will take some time to achieve the results that you’re looking for in life, but the coaching won’t go on forever. I’m definitely interested in maintaining friendships and establishing relationships with my clients, but I’m more interested in you making your way to Point B in life – to being SUPERCHARGED for success and wellness. It’s a process and it will take some time and work, but you will get there. It may be that we work together for a period of weeks or months and then stop for a while. Then, we may resume a year or two later to work through another particular issue or point of concern. This is purely at your discretion, although I will have an opinion. And quite honestly, I can only effectively work with a certain number of people at a time.
My Personal Satisfaction Guarantee
Although I’ve never had to refund money for a lack of satisfaction or success from a coaching relationship, I suppose there’s always the chance of a first time. My biggest concern with our coaching engagement is results and improvement. Remember, your success is my success in this situation. If at any time you decide that our coaching arrangement is not working for you, you have the freedom to withdraw. I will gladly refund any unused portion of paid sessions that remain. Also, in like manner, I reserve the right to do the same, as some clients can become “uncoachable” at times. If I feel that this is case, I will terminate our coaching agreement and refund any paid but unused sessions.
You can rest assured that your money will be spent well in a coaching engagement with me.
How to Begin the Coaching Engagement
At this point, you may still be a bit uncertain as to whether or not a coaching arrangement is best for you at this time. That’s okay. Anytime we choose to take on change, even when it’s a positive step with hiring a coach, there can be a lot of fear involved. That being said, here are three things to do that will help you decide:
- Consider your current situation. In doing so, ask yourself, “Is the status quo where I want to be for the rest of my life? Are the negatives of what’s going on outweighing the positives?” If so, then it’s time to do something about it. If you let this go on too long, you could really get off course. Here’s an article I wrote that might help you with this.
- Pray about it. I’m not kidding here. If you’re not tapped into the strength and wisdom that only comes from God Himself, then you’re doing yourself a disfavor. Ask God for help, guidance and direction.
- Take action. You know as well as I do that nothing is going to change unless you do something. This is your wake up call. Start moving in the right direction. There’s an old saying – “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting different results.” If you don’t act now, things are most likely not going to improve.
