Christmas Means “God with Us”

God With Us Nativity

It’s been a while since I last blogged here, but thought it appropriate to do so in light of the Christmas season. At this point, I’m sure that everyone is highly engrossed in the “hustle and bustle” busyness of the holiday season. For this reason, I thought I’d take a moment and remind all of us (myself included) of what Christmas truly means:

Matthew 1:6 states – “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.”

Quite simply and to the point, (for Christians) Christmas isn’t just about decorating, Santa Claus or buying gifts, but rather about the miracle of the incarnation of Jesus Christ – God becoming flesh, one of us and dwelling among us – GOD WITH US. It’s about the fact that God loves us so much (John 3:16), that He was willing to become one of us – to walk in our shoes – to look us in the eye and to show us how to live perfectly.

But, He didn’t stop there.

At the young age of 33, He gave up His life in sacrifice for all of humanity, for those who would believe and trust in Him. And, as it says in John 1:12-13,

“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.”

Truly a miracle!

It is my prayer this Christmas season that we would all relish in the fact that God truly is with us and that if we believe and trust in Christ, that He is and always will be for us, (as prophesied in Isaiah 9:6b) –

“Wonderful Counselor” – our ultimate Source of advice, wisdom and truth

“Mighty God” – bigger than any problem or foe and able to reign victoriously in our lives

“Everlasting Father” – knows best and is our big loving “Daddy” throughout eternity

“Prince of Peace” – able to comfort us beyond imagination and give us rest in our weary souls

Take heart during this season, wherever you are, whatever your trials, whatever your need and remember,

Christmas means GOD WITH US!

My greatest gift right now is the reassurance I’m furnished with each day I awaken, feeling, hearing & knowing He is with me. He is the ‘Prince of Peace who comforted me today beyond my imagination & who will provide me rest tonight within my weary soul;’ placing His comforting hedge of protection preparing me for another beautiful morning in His glory. Thank you Rick – Peace be with you from Guanacaste, ‘paz a usted.’
